Robots worth €12,000 took over Košice
Emotional robots are being developed in Košice. A humanoid robot worth €12,000 also sat down for Sunday breakfast. You can also purchase a pet for €2,000. A robotic dog immediately stole the children’s hearts.
Humanoid robots, artificial dogs simulating the behaviour of a living creature and the latest technology were presented at another breakfast within ECOC 2013. “We’re interested in hardware and creating motors for robots,” explained Radoslav Vielek. The young cyberneticist was always interested in mathematics and physics. Today, he cooperates in large projects since in his opinion, robots rule the world.
Robots are also controlled fromJapan
“We are developing emotional robots,” disclosed Mária Virčíková from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics at the Technical University (TU) in Košice. In her words, artificial intelligence is mainly about systems which learn. This means that they adapt to their surrounding conditions. She also added several details about the production of robots: “We purchase hardware from France. If we wanted to produce something similar, we would need approximately 2 years and a team of 15 people.” Her department also deals with teleoperation: “We can control a robot in Slovakia from Japan, for example.”

Mária Virčíková mentioned that they also program robots and develop their software: “We teach them how to behave.” Artificial dogs therefore become trained animals. An advantage is that they cannot harm their master and aren’t as demanding as live animals. A more expensive toy (€2,000) saves money on food and does not need attention or care from a human. However, it will not replace the love of an animal….
